It’s the end of the year and Spotify graciously created a playlist of my top 100 most played songs for 2017, conveniently called “top songs for 2017.” It’s my second such playlist (2016 was jammed full of good music, some new and plenty not so new) and let me tell you, this playlist is full of songs I remember putting on repeat and just letting them play endlessly.
Sometimes a song is so freaking good, so well made, speaks so clearly to my inner being that I simply have to listen to it… over and over and over. Constantly, without stop.
Here’s a couple:
- “Let Go – Sir Sly Remix” by RAC, Kele, MNDR
- “Warrior” by Steve James, Lights
- “Strong – RAC Remix” by London Grammar, RAC
- Stranger than Earth” by Purity Ring
In other news, I painted a picture of Dianne. 🙂

Interesting things happen when you decide to sketch for an hour or so before bed, instead of consuming YouTube videos. When you decide to work instead of play. Things get done. The ball moves forward and you are that much closer to a goal.
I should do this again and see if I get similar results.

Alive and kicking. What’s there to complain about? Going to do a quick art stream today starting at 3pm MST. Stop by and say hello twitch.tv/thefro3po
Stayed up late to get a bit more of this one complete. So, late in fact that I fell asleep uploading the pic to my blog. lol
Took my own advice and mixed some of my own style and backed off of the anime/cartoony style a bit. Results are looking good so far.
Tried some different hairstyles for the ladies of Blue Moon. We’ll see if I keep them.
and now, it’s really Time for Bed.
I’ve been playing around with this animated/cartoony style all week. I love the simplicity, of the shapes. It makes it easier for me during the construction phase of creating, but it’s definitely not completely for me.
Next week I’m looking forward to blending what I do like about it with my own natural style.
But that’s next week. Not sure what the weekend will be about. I know I’m putting back up the Wall of Crazy, so I can map out my Phase I, II, and III plans… Maybe some T-Shirt design sketches seeing as that’s the big art goals for Phase I (the next ten months).
We shall see
Strange where inspiration can come from. Got the mail yesterday and saw this small magazine for women’s New Balances. Was about to toss it in the trash until I saw the cover again and it reminded my of one of my characters.
So I kept it and today I say to draw this morning (top left corner). I didn’t quite nail Dianne’s face the way I’d hoped so I set aside my sketchbook and went about my day.
Later, feeling unsatisfied I started on the larger image of her standing. I felt I got a tad bit closer, but she ended up with a touch of Asian that wasn’t suppose to be there.
Instead of of going for a third try I instead started to draw Red, and then later added Verena and then Dianne in the background. Verena is sporting s new hairdo, which will remain for the moment, but Dianne will still need sone further exploration.
All and all happy with how the pencils are coming back to me and the confidence returning.
Until next time,
Enjoy the Journey.
My initial reaction to the turtle pace of finishing this race, was irritation. Which started to transform into the need to rush, which manifested into frustration as I tripped over myself, making mistakes multiplied my fury. I was only focusing on finishing.
But, after a couple deep breaths.
A break and some time apart.
I realized that this was a process.
My mistakes were lessons… I was learning. I’m moving forward with every brush stoke. I collected my composure, and began to enjoy the journey.

My brain is making connections.
