What??

Unpacking boxes from my recent move, organizing my new work area when I came across this gem stuck in an old sketchbook from back in 2000.

I just realized how similar Dianne’s hair and body type is to Red… Changes will be made.

Drawing Dianne

Slow start in the creation of Dianne’s facial features, but I have high hopes for our mute Masantra.

Okay, I feel like I have a good grasp of who Verena is and feel comfortable putting her aside to start fleshing out my other main characters.

Two characters down.

Going to start working on Dianne next.

It’s crazy how quickly I’ve moved from, “can’t manage to draw anything at all,” to “not enough time to draw as much as if like.”

Such is life I suppose.

5ft 5in & 18yrs old?

Eighteen years worth of pent up adolescent aggression reaches critical levels when the pressures of being Student President begin to weigh down on Verena.

– OCD like attention to detail, straight arrow, follows the rules, appreciates order, extrovert, little to no backbone, permanent frown and furrowed brow, poor eyesight.

– Pressured into student government by her parents, her lack of a spine quickly becomes a problem as students, instructors, and administrators quickly begin taking advantage of her cowardice.

I’m going to have to figure out how to make my characters faces a little younger. They’re suppose to be high school age (17-18yrs old), but they’re looking older. I’ll have to see what moving the eyes down a tad bit and enlarging them does.

But for now it’s time to get ready for work.

Had to take another trip to the library, this time searching Pinterest for clothing reference as I was getting pretty frustrated last night.

Found some helpful stuff, but I definitely forced myself to work harder than necessary because I started this sketch with the head first and worked my way down. #facepalm.

Regardless this sketch turned character illustration has been very fruitful. Not only did I get a better understanding of Verena, but I also got a better understanding of the Academy’s uniform, how all it’s parts work and in the process made it look better too. 🙂

Attention

Just like Verena to be standing at attention for her first full sketch.
